DUTERTE: IF I WIN, BETTER PUT UP MORE FUNERAL PARLORS
In an independent study done by a group of students and professors currently staying in the Philippines, it was concluded that 88.35% of sari-sari stores in the country will be replaced by funeral parlors.
What's a "Sari-sari store"?
From Wikipedia: "A sari-sari store is a convenience store found in the Philippines. The word sari-sari is Tagalog meaning "variety". Such stores form an important economic and social location in a Filipino community."
Sari-sari stores are mostly manned by only one person at the window unlike convenience stores such as 7-11 and Mini Mart which are open to customers. Sari-sari stores are seen as often as every 3-4 houses in most neighborhoods especially in rural areas where franchises of bigger convenience stores are not as profitable.
In the study by the Harvard University panel, they also explained that Filipinos will begin to see an increase in profit with sales of second-hand clothes "especially those who have drug dealers for friends." An increase of ukay-ukay stalls should be expected since dead criminal relatives will have items left for sale.
The study also included a detailed explanation on how prisons and jails will be less profitable and most prison guards might be laid off as a result. "It's okay, they can setup their own funeral parlor. Embalming is tough to get into, but easy to perfect. It's a very simple process once you get through that phase where you're disgusted at the dead bodies," said one of the Ivy League professors.
2016 Presidential Elections
Duterte recently filed his COC for presidency after backing out once. He is one of the big names along with Jejomar Binay, Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Grace Poe and Mar Roxas. Duterte has the biggest following in social media audiences after the positive impact he had in the improvement of Davao, a city in which he served as a mayor and other political positions for more than two decades.

NTC spokesperson Romulo Nuevo told the media at the 5 PM press conference, "the whole commission and its associates believe that the expansion of Telstra as an internet service provider in the Philippines is detrimental to the country's best interests."
"We must preserve the continuity of what's going on right now with PLDT and Globe as the two leaders in fast and reliable internet connection. Having a third party from a foreign country will have serious ramifications with how the pricing, inclusive or not of taxes, is done," he added.
Mid-2015, it was announced that San Miguel Corp. was in talks with Australia's largest internet service provider Telstra in a possible expansion to the archipelago. The announcement was met with delight by frustrated customers of Philippine telcos which are the usual targets for complaints with slow internet speed and hidden bandwidth caps.
Nuevo also told the press, "the NTC -- let me say it in Filipino -- gusto lamang namin na tangkilikin ng mga Pilipino ang sariling atin." Claiming that the NTC only wants the Filipino people to support their own and not the Australian telco. In the full transcript, however, it is noted that Telstra is free to provide voice, mobile, TV cable and pay-per-view streaming services to the country.
Telstra has a long history in Australia, originating together with Australia Post as a government department, the Postmaster-General's Department. Telstra is now fully privatised and has been undergoing a change program to become more customer focused under its recent CEO, David Thodey. New CEO Andy Penn is expected to increase the focus on growth in international markets.

“Very challenging, kaysa noong gay pa lang ako as Joey,” he says. “Dito kasi, dapat babae talaga ako sa movements ko, sa pagsasalita, sa lahat. Physically, may glam team ako to help transform me sa hair, makeup, stylings ko and I even have an acting coach. Pero malaking tulong din ang co-stars ko, like Katrina Halili and Michael de Mesa na tinuturuan ako ng wastong pagkilos bilang babae. Si Tito Mike de Mesa is one the best actors who can play gay roles convincingly at sinasabi niya kung kulang pa o sobra ang acting ko.”
He felt so relieved when reaction on social media about his transformation turned out to be very positive. “Takot na takot ako noon kung paano ako tatanggapin but now, everyday, lagi kaming trending at lahat ng feedback, comments, natutuwa sila. May gusto ngang manligaw sa akin, meron pang nag-marriage proposal. May nagsabing straight siya at hindi niya akalaing kaya pala niyang magkaroon ng feelings for a transwoman like Destiny Rose. Marami ring natutuwa kasi palaban na ako, unlike before as Joey na api-apihan ako ng lahat. This time, abangan nyo, may sampalan kami ni Katrina Halili. Hindi na ako paaapi sa kanya.”
How’s his non-showbiz girlfriend? “Break na po kami. Kasi na-realize ko kapag nagtititigan kami ni Fabio Ide kung anong real identity ko.”
Everyone in front of Ken was stunned, speechless. Then he blurts out: “Joke lang. Kami pa rin po. Straight pa rin ako at babae pa rin ang mas gusto ko.”
Aljur Abrenica Hopes The Film 'Hermano Puli' Will Give Apolinario De La Cruz The Recognition He Deserves As One Of Our Heroes
“I fell in love with the material after Direk Gil Portes told me about it then I did my personal research on Apolinario de la Cruz or Hermano Puli in his hometown, Lucban, Quezon,” he says. “He led a major revolt against Spain pero hindi siya gaanong nabibigyan ng importancia in our history books. Maski yung guide ko sa Lucban, iba pa yung date na sinabi sa’kin when he died, compared doon sa actual marker where Hermano Puli fought a major battle. Gusto niyang magpari pero hindi siya pinayagan dahil Indio siya. May girl na gustong-gusto siya, but he wanted to remain pure at mas gusto niya maglingkod sa Diyos kaya itinatag niya ang Cofradia de San Jose or Confraternity of St. Joseph na puro Indios ang members, fostering the practice of Christian virtues. Lumawak masyado ang samahan nila kaya natakot ang Spanish authorities and accused them of heresy. He fought for religious freedom and was executed in 1841 at the age of only 27. His life inspired the secular priests, the Gomburza, who were executed in 1872 while fighting for racial equality among the clergy.”
Aljur believes so much in Director Gil Portes. “I’ve seen his best works noong bata pa ako, like ‘Mga Munting Tinig’, ‘Saranggola’ and ‘Markova’, all award-winners, pero hindi pa ako aware noon na siya pala ang director ng movies na yun. So I feel blessed na makatrabaho siya ngayon in this big historical project. I’m so glad hindi siya sumuko sa project na ito kahit umurong yung dating producers. I hope this movie will give Hermano Puli the recognition that he deserves in our history. Happy rin ako kasi for the first time, makakasama ko rito my two younger brothers, Vin and Allen, who both play important roles in the movie.”
Aljur is slowly getting back into the limelight. He’s now seen regularly in “Dangwa” as one of Janine Gutierrez’ leading men. He is also in two other movies, “Mabalasik” of Ato Bautista and “Walang EDSA” of Alvin Yapan.
Carla is one of the busiest Kapuso actress. She’ll now been in “Because of You” from Monday to Friday starting November 30. On Saturdays, she’s seen in “Karelasyon” and on Sundays, in “Ismol Family”. And she also hosts the cooking demos “Delmonte Kitchenomics”. “I can’t complain dahil ang dami talagang blessings na binibigay ni Lord sa akin.”
She considers it a blessing to work with Gabby again after they worked in the movie “Yesterday Today Tomorrow” four years ago. “Ganun pa rin, masaya sa set. Kwela, Nagpapatawa kahit madaling araw at pagod na kami. Mabait siya sa lahat.”
Gabby’s eldest daughter, KC, is the same age as Carla’s Ate Ericka. “Pareho sila ng birthday. The same day sila pinanganak, April 7, 1985, in the same hospital at magkatabi pa ang rooms ng mom ko at ni Ms. Sharon Cuneta.”
It’s good she has lost weight and is slimmer now. “Yes, when I was doing ‘Pare Koy’, ang laki ko noon. It took five months of working out and dieting bago lumabas yung epekto ng hard work ko. Now, the challenge is how to maintain. I only eat special food prepared for me by Healthy House na bilang talaga ang calories.”
In “Because of You”, Carla plays Andrea, a bubbly girl who is deserted at the altar on their wedding day by Rafael Rosell as Oliver, the runaway groom. She moves on and meets Gabby Concepcion as Jaime, an RTW magnate who’s wife, Valerie Concepcion, leaves him and their four children for Carlo Gonzales. Carla slowly falls in love with her handsome boss but then, Rafael comes back and woos her again. Also in the cast are Celia Rodriguez as Gabby’s haughty mom, Kuh Ledesma as Gabby’s stern business associate, Bettina Carlos as Gabby’s personal assistant who’s secretly in love with him, Rey PJ Abellana as Carla’s long lost dad, Joyce Ching as Gabby’s eldest daughter who’s hostile to Carla, Enzo Pineda as Joyce’s rich but irresponsible boyfriend, Yia Villania and Vaness del Moral as Carla’s caring best friends, Mike Flores as Gabby’s best friend and Julius Arasga, Sofia Pablo and Jacob Briss as Gabby’s younger children.
Brothers they stand, yet divided they fall. Choose a side on April 27 2016. #CaptainAmericaCivilWar

Big Pressure On Janella Salvador, Jerome Ponce & Marlo Mortel As Lead Stars Of 'Haunted Mansion' That Replaces Regal's 'Shake Rattle' Series As Filmfest Entry
“Yes, may pressure talaga,” says Janella. “Unang-una, first movie namin ito, tapos pang-filmfest pa na ang bibigat ng mga kasabay namin, so we’re all praying na sana magustuhan ito ng viewers. We all did our best to make sure maganda ang movie, and we want to thank our director, Jun Lana, for being so patient with us. Alam niyang newcomers kami so he really helped us and we learned so much from him. Mabait siya, hindi nagtataray. He taught us discipline at nag-enjoy kami working with him.”
“May pressure kasi ito raw ang kapalit ng ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll’ series na laging entry ng Regal kung Pasko,” says Jerome, who’s the son of former Viva actor, Jessie Delgado. “We know people are expecting a lot from this movie and we’re just so happy that Regal supported us all the way. Ang laki ng gastos nila rito.”
Mother Lily adds at this point. “Yung usual budget namin for ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll’ with three episodes, inilagay namin dito,” she says. “Lahat ng hiningi ni Direk Jun Lana, we gave him. The production design is very expensive. Yung lumang bahay where the film was shot on location, mas pinaluma pa. Tapos, for the flashback scenes na nangyari in the 1950s, ginawa namang bago pa yung bahay. Naghukay pa sila rito ng hole as big as a swimming pool for one scene, na ginamit lang for about two minutes on screen. The costumes, the effects, ginastusan namin lahat. I can say we have the biggest budget among the horror entries sa filmfest.”
Gil says he first learned of Hermano Puli while shooting “Miguel/Michelle” in Lucban, Quezon in 1998. “I researched on him and he’s one of our forgotten heroes. He has always wanted to be a priest but Indios like him are not allowed so he formed a religious Kapatiran called Cofradia de San Jose. At first, the church was supporting it but it spread to other provinces, so the Spaniards got threatened that it’s becoming very powerful so they invented stories that it’s a cult where orgies are performed and women get pregnant. This triggers a religious revolt led by Hermano Puli, until he was arrested, had a mock trial and was executed. His body was cut into four. His head was displayed in front of the church while the other pieces were placed on the entrances to Lucban.”
There’s a movie before titled “Hermano Pule” written and directed by FV Alfon in 1979 with Tommy Abuel but Gil says his version will be very different, written by Eric Ramos who did thorough research with the help of a UP professor, Rina Boncalan. Aljur Abrenica has always been his only choice for the title role of “Hermano Puli”. “I was surprised when I went to Lucban as I learned nandun na si Aljur for three days, personally researching on Hermano Puli. Humanga ako sa dedication niya sa role at sa movie.”
Aside from Aljur, the other members of the cast are Louise de los Reyes as Evangelina, a girl so in love with Puli who wants to be pure for the Lord; Enzo Pineda as Gustavo, Puli’s right hand man; Vin Abrenica as Apolonio, Puli’s follower who hates Spanish priests after his bride was raped by a priest and later becomes the leader of the Colorum that exists until today; Menggie Cobarrubias as Padre Sancho, who initially supports Puli then becomes his tormentor; Kiko Matos as the Spanish Governor Ortega of Tayabas who is kind to Puli; Markki Stroem as a Spanish officer who tortures Puli (he’ll be the most hated character in the movie, says Gil); Alvin Fortuna as Kabesang Isko and Althea Vega as his wife. Also in the cast are Kristoffer Martin, Ana Capri, Dennis Coronel, Jess Evardone, Abel Estanislao, Diva Montelaba and Allen Abrenica (the youngest brother of Aljur) who will play a teener raped by a priest. Shooting starts in Lucban on December 8, the feast of the Immaculate Conception. Here’s wishing that this historical drama will be as successful at the box office of the recent “Heneral Luna”.
“I will miss everyone involved in the show, both the cast and crew as all of us became really close while taping the it at naging maganda ang samahan namin sa 16 weeks na itinakbo ng show,” she says.
Lovi remains silent when asked about the real score between her and Rocco. Since they both won’t talk, all sorts of speculations crop up, including a story that she got mad because Rocco spent all the money in their joint account without informing her. It’s Rocco who’s badly affected by this rumor so he’s the one who answered it in his social media account: "Been receiving news about me stealing money from a joint account and having a third party involved in our relationship. There’s no joint account. No third party. I have the utmost respect for Lovi. Please do respect the privacy that we both request right now. Thank you."
We heard that during the last taping days of their soap, they were cold to each other. “Dedmahan lang sila,” says our source. And this proves something bad is really going on between them. But what about in shooting of their movie on Ka Oryang, “Lakambini”? Do they also ignore each other when Rocco plays Andres Bonifacio to Lovi’s Gregoria de Jesus? Lovi is going to Europe on a vacation this Saturday. Rocco won’t be with her anymore, unlike last year when they went there together.
In its final episodes, “Beautiful Strangers” gets more exciting with Rocco as Noel managing to escape from the clutches of Dina Bonnevie as Alejandra who’s holding him captive. He teams up with Heart Evangelista as Kristine and some cops to hunt down Dina who manages to get away from them and hides in their house in Tagaytay with her mom, Divina Valencia as Salve. Lovi as Joyce shows to Ben Alves as Lawrence the CCTV footage which shows Dina is the real culprit in the crime committed on Joyce, but Ben sides with his mom, Dina, and tries to help her escape by going abroad as he can’t bear seeing her go to jail. Thinking Dina is already gone, Christopher de Leon as Ronaldo goes on with the groundbreaking of his company’s latest project, Casa Fuego, without knowing that Dina will show up there and intends to blow up the whole place with Heart and Lovi inside a model unit. While the unit is in flames, Ben goes inside to save Lovi and Dina follows him to save him. Who will survive and who will perish in the fire? Is there still a chance for the love stories of Kristine and Rocco, Lovi and Ben to flourish after all they’ve gone through. To find out, don’t miss the shattering conclusion of “Beautiful Strangers”.
