CLINT EASTWOOD HAS UNIQUE PERSONAL CONNECTION WITH “SULLY”

story few people are aware of—one director Clint Eastwood himself may have long ago forgotten, but which connects him in a unique way with the subject matter of “Sully” —came to light when working on the film.

As a young man of 21 in the Army, Eastwood was a passenger on a Navy plane, “catching a free flight from Seattle down to Alameda,” he relates. “It was stormy and we went down off of Point Reyes, California, in the Pacific, and I found myself in the water, swimming a few miles toward shore, thinking, ‘Well, 21’s not as long as a person wants to live.’”

Producer, and Eastwood’s longtime production manager, Tim Moore states, “What’s remarkable is that Clint remembers exactly how the landing was—that the back end went down and they had to get out pretty fast because they thought it was going to sink quickly, and they just started swimming. While I don’t think that was a factor in picking this film, I think the commonalities brought back a lot of memories; it’s certainly interesting that this project found its way to him.”

Though he doesn’t equate his experience with that of the passengers and crew on flight 1549, it did provide a certain perspective for one preparing to direct Sully’s story. “I suppose having been in a similar situation,” Eastwood surmises, “as a pilot I would have chanced a water landing rather than go someplace there’s no runway.”

In the film, moments after takeoff from New York’s LaGuardia Airport, a flock of birds strikes US Airways flight 1549, taking out both engines at only 2800 feet and causing an immediate, forced water landing. It is, we will learn, unprecedented. “No one has ever trained for an incident like that,” notes Tom Hanks, speaking as the titular Captain Chesley Sullenberger in “Sully.”

(Watch the “Sully” featurette “Miracle on the Hudson” athttps://youtu.be/qWDnUqEwVQE.)

Recounting the real events that took place on that cold day in January 2009, the film also explores their very real aftermath. The plane carried 150 passengers and five crew members, yet not a single life was lost—not in the air, not in the water. But as “Sully” reveals, in the days following what quickly came to be known as the Miracle on the Hudson, the pilot with a record of proficiency, years of experience, and calm in the face of potential catastrophe, would be called upon repeatedly to defend his actions to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

It was that part of the story, the one the world didn’t know, that drew Eastwood to the project. “Anybody who keeps their wits about them when things are going wrong, who can negotiate the problems without panicking, is someone of superior character and interesting to watch on film. But for me, the real conflict came after, with the investigative board questioning his decisions even though he’d saved so many lives.”

“I’m not an aviator,” says Hanks, “but I know you’re not supposed to be able to make a landing like that. This was a very pragmatic man who understood the realities of what he’d done and what it meant. He will never say he’s a hero, but knowing with confidence that he could make that landing? That was a heroic thing he did. And he paid a price for it.”

That cost was exacted both during the day, when he and his co-pilot, Jeff Skiles, were being interrogated by the investigative board, and at night, when Sully was haunted by nightmares about what could have happened—what very well might have happened—had he turned that plane around in search of a less watery airfield.

“It was the least bad option,” the man himself, Capt. Sullenberger, states. Having lost thrust in both engines of the A320, he quickly determined that the Hudson River, which runs between New Jersey and Manhattan’s West Side, was their best bet. “There was nowhere else in the entire New York Metropolitan area long enough, wide enough, or smooth enough to land an airliner.”

Opening across the Philippines on Thursday, Sept. 08 in IMAX and regular cinemas,“Sully” is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Tables Are Turned In 'Magkaibang Mundo' Now That Assunta De Rossi Is Confirmed Innocent And Gina Alajar Is The Real Criminal, Juancho Trivino's Life Put In Danger

JUANCHO TRIVINO is thankful that his playing the lead role of Elfino in “Magkaibang Mundo” gave viewers the chance to get to know him more as an actor. “Dahil dito, mas nakikilala na ako in public,” he says. “Alam nilang ako si Inoy in 'Magkaibang Mundo' at tinutulungan ko si Louise de los Reyes as Pepay. Playing the lead role in this show made me realize that this is really what I want to do: to act. I think I am now ready to do more challenging projects in the future. Dati kasi, mas hilig kong mag-basketball. But now, mas enjoy na ako sa acting. Hindi ko na nga nabalikan ang business management studies ko sa La Salle. Pero one of these days, babalikan ko yun. Kasi 30 units na lang ang kulang ko at degree holder na ako.”

This week in “Magkaibang Mundo”, Juancho as Inoy gets closer to Louise de los Reyes as Pepay, but Dion Ignacio as Jeffrey continues to hound them and won’t give them peace as he’s obsessed with Louise. He points a gun at Juancho but he turns into a dwarf before Dion can shoot him. Assunta de Rossi as Amanda finds an ally in Manang Biring, who testifies in court that it’s really Gina Alajar as Noreen who masterminded all the crimes that Assunta is accused of. Assunta regains her freedom, but Gina manages to escape before she gets arrested. She vows to get back and Assunta and Louise. Ana Capri as Barang also hounds Juancho and has put a curse on him that puts his life in great danger.

Rita Daniela Happy To Leave Villain Roles In Soaps To Return To Her First Love, Singing, In 'Superstar Duets'

RITA DANIELA is better known as a contravida in the various soaps she did. But she actually started as a singer when she was still Rita de Guzman, which is why she’s happy that she is included in “Superstar Duets” where she gets to sing again.

“First love ko talaga ang singing kahit noong umaarte pa ako sa soaps,” she says. “So dito sa ‘Superstar Duets’, I’m glad magagawa ko uli something I really enjoy and love doing, ang pagkanta.”

Her last soap was “Let the Love Begin”, where she had a tiff with co-star Donita Rose. “We had a problem sa communication. Naayos na naman so as much as possible, I don’t want to talk about it anymore kasi matagal nang tapos, e.”

What can she say about her competitors in “Superstar Duets” like Joross Gamboa, Pecto, Divine Aucina, Denise Barbacena, Osang, Jerald Napoles and Nar Cabico?  “I think what we’ll have is a friendly competition. Kasi masaya kaming lahat lagi sa taping, along with our host, Jennylyn Mercado, and also the judges na sina Allan K, Christian Bautista and Aicelle Santos. Hindi lang kasi ito puro kantahan kundi may comedy rin, so entertaining talaga. I think viewers will have a good time watching it.”

“Superstar Duets” will replace “Lip Sync Battle” and start airing this Saturday on GMA-7 after “Magpakailanman”. Directed by Bert de Leon, it’s an original concept and not a show franchised from a foreign company.

Kathryn Bernardo And Daniel Padilla Will Thrill Their Fans With Their Real, Not Fake, Kissing Scenes In 'Barcelona: A Love Untold'

KATHRYN BERNARDO says the loyal fans of her KathNiel love team with Daniel Padilla will see a different Kathryn and a different Daniel in their new movie, “Barcelona: A Love Untold” that opens on September 14, as directed by Olivia Lamasan. “We’re playing more mature roles here, hindi na pa-cute, hindi na teenybopper roles like we did before in ‘Must Be Love’ and ‘She’s Dating the Gangster’,” she says. “This is just to be expected kasi nga hindi na rin kami teenagers ni Daniel, so kailangang lumevel up na kami because even our fans, mas mature na rin. I’m sure mapapansin nila ang pagkakaiba when they watch the movie.”

Someone says Kathryn’s competence as a drama actress is very evident in many scenes in the film. Even Daniel is said to have been amazed by her transformation and her acting prowess as a Celine, a young woman who goes to Spain to rise from her failures and meets Daniel as Ely, a guy who’s heartbroken after his sweetheart, Celine, a lookalike of Kathryn, dumped him.

So what’s the real score between them at this stage? “Exclusive na kami. Wala nang puedeng dumagdag na isa pa doon. We enjoy each other’s company every day,” Daniel declares.

Daniel says their love team was formed five years ago. “Noong first year, getting to know each other pa lang kami,” he adds. “Then sa second year, we get to know our differences and it’s up to each of us to accept it or magka-clash kami. Since then, we’ve learned na tanggapin kung ano talaga ang isa’t isa. So now, mas kilala na namin ang bawat isa. May dumating mang problema, we talk about it, pero basta kaming dalawa, okay kami. Mas matatag na yung pundasyon namin and at this point, masaya kami, okay kami, okay lahat.”

So how is it shooting their new film in Barcelona? “Three weeks kami run,” says Kathryn. “Puro trabaho to maximize our time there. Hindi madali. Nakakapagod, but it’s all worth it. Ang ganda ng lugar, masaya kaming lahat with Direk Olive Lamasan. Nag-bonding kami. Pati yung mga Pinoy na nakatira roon, tinulungan kami. We can say this is a very special project at napamahal sa’min pati yung characters na ginagampanan namin.”

And yes, they finally have a real kissing scene, not “daya” like before. “Ayokong magsalita about it. Baka masyadong mag-expect ang fans namin. Basta panoorin na lang nila ang movie when it opens on September 14. I guarantee, matutuwa sila, masisiyahan sila.”

Supporting them in the movie are Aiko Melendez, Joshua Garcia, Joey Marquez, Anna Capri, Ricky Davao, Cris Villanueva and Liza Dino.

WORLD PREMIERE OF ANG LEE'S “BILLY LYNN'S LONG HALFTIME WALK” SET AT THE 54TH NEW YORK FILM FESTIVAL

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announces Ang Lee’s highly anticipated “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk” as a Special World Premiere Presentation of the 54th New York Film Festival (September 30 – October 16) on Friday, October 14, at AMC Lincoln Square.

New York Film Festival Director and Selection Committee Chair Kent Jones said, "Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk astonished me, and it moved me deeply—in the grandest way, as a story of America in the years after the invasion of Iraq, and on the most intimate person-to-person wavelength. Ang Lee has always gone deep into the nuances of the emotions between his characters, and that’s exactly what drove him to push cinema technology to new levels. It’s all about the faces, the smallest emotional shifts. In every way, `Billy Lynn' is the work of a master."

“Billy Lynn” is also a giant step forward in the art of cinema, made with a cinematographic process years ahead of its time. The film, from TriStar Pictures and Studio 8 in association with LStar Capital, Film4, Bona Film Group, and Fosun Media, is the first full-length narrative film shot in 4K, native 3D at the ultra high rate of 120 frames-per-second. The NYFF event will be the first time ever the format will be screened publicly. Creating the film in this immersive format required technical invention at each stage of the process—prep, shooting, and postproduction. The commercial run of the film will play in a variety of 2D and 3D formats, all of which display the new techniques with which the film was made.

Lee’s stunning adaptation of Ben Fountain’s novel is the story of an Iraq war hero (newcomer Joe Alwyn) who comes home with his fellow members of Bravo Company for a victory tour. This culminates in a halftime show at a Thanksgiving Day football game—a high-intensity media extravaganza summoning memories of the trauma of losing his beloved sergeant in a firefight. Lee’s brave, heartbreaking film goes right to the heart of a great division that haunts this country: between the ideal image of things as they should be and the ongoing reality of things as they are. With a brilliant supporting cast, including Kristen Stewart, Chris Tucker, Garrett Hedlund with Vin Diesel and Steve Martin.

“I’m very grateful to the New York Film Festival for selecting our film and giving it such a unique platform,” said Lee. “The New York Film Festival has been such an important event for me both as a New Yorker and a filmmaker, and I am honored to be represented this year with Billy Lynn. With each film, I try to learn fresh ways to connect with the audience and with myself. Since Life of Pi, I have been working with my team towards a new cinematic approach that I hope will revitalize that connection. But technology is merely a tool; it should always be in service of artistic expression, to make it strong and fresh, because story and drama matter most. I thought Billy’s journey, which is both intimate and epic, and told almost entirely from his point of view, lent itself particularly well to the emotion and intensity that this new approach fosters. At least I hope so, as many people have worked long and hard to help me try to make the future a reality today. I am thankful to them all.”

Lee has a long history with the festival. Most recently, his Oscar-winning “Life of Pi” was Opening Night of NYFF50 in 2012. His 1997 film “The Ice Storm” opened NYFF35, and “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” was Closing Night of the 38th festival in 2000.

Directed by Ang Lee and produced by Marc Platt, Ang Lee, Rhodri Thomas, and Stephen Cornwell, “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk” is based on the widely acclaimed, best-selling novel by Ben Fountain, with a screenplay by Jean-Christophe Castelli.

Opening across the Philippines on December 07, “Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

“SAUSAGE PARTY” GETS R-18 RATING, BRAVELY OPENS IN PH SEPT 28

A first-ever for an animated comedy, Columbia Pictures' eagerly anticipated “Sausage Party” has been rated R-18 by the Movie & Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). The movie's raunchy humor and themes have been deemed suitable only to mature audiences, 18 years old and above.

Indeed, there's no stopping “Sausage Party” from opening in the Philippines on Sept. 28.

A recent smash, box-office hit in the US with cumulative gross of a whopping $80-million, “Sausage Party” is about one sausage leading a group of supermarket products on a quest to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they become chosen to leave the grocery store.

Directed by Conrad Vernon & Greg Tiernan, the film features the vocal talents of a who’s who of today’s comedy stars – Michael Cera, James Franco, Salma Hayek, Jonah Hill, Nick Kroll, David Krumholtz, Danny McBride, Edward Norton, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, and Kristen Wiig.

In creating the R-rated comedy, finding what director Conrad Vernon calls “the line of taste” was a constant discussion. “That line moved all over the place,” he says. “We would step over it, and then we wouldn’t be going far enough…”

But, says director Greg Tiernan, pushing the envelope came naturally, because for an animator, it’s just what you do. “In animation, you always want to push – whether it’s the story or the execution of the animation – because it’s always easier to pull back,” says Tiernan. “We had that ingrained in us from the first day we were in the animation business. Don’t censor yourself, because other people will do it for you.”

Still, as the directors, they did have to be responsible for making sure that on balance, the film delivered as an entertaining movie experience. “We had to be careful that the movie wasn’t just about shock value,” says Tiernan. “That was never the intent – it was supposed to have heart and soul and be a great story. We could go as far as we wanted, but we always had to ask, ‘OK, is it funny? What’s it adding to the story?’”

One of the places that the filmmakers decided to push was in the character design of Brenda. “Everyone howled when they first saw the design,” says Vernon. “Our character designer, Craig Kellman, popped that vertical mouth in there – he’s not one to hold back. I took that over with a bunch of other designs to Seth and Evan and they were flipping through – ‘cool, cool, cool’ – and then it was just laughter and ‘Oh my God.’ Finally, there was one point where we asked ourselves, should we really be doing this? Can people relate to her if she has a vertical mouth? And [producer] Megan Ellison said, ‘If you don’t do a vertical mouth, I’m not making this movie.’”

Opening across the Philippines on Sept. 28, “Sausage Party” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

“SULLY” FILMED ENTIRELY WITH IMAX CAMERAS FOR STUNNING CLARITY, SCALE

A miracle landing deserves an epic-scale shooting. That's why director Clint Eastwood has chosen to film Warner Bros. Pictures' “Sully” – the airborne thriller based on true events -- almost entirely with new ALEXA IMAX® 65mm cameras.

As a result, audiences will see the so-called `miracle on the Hudson' depicted in stunning clarity.

And exclusively in IMAX® theatres, “Sully” will be presented in an expanded IMAX 1.9:1 aspect ratio and fill more of the IMAX screen – offering moviegoers 26% more of the image than standard cinemas for a truly immersive experience.
“Sully” stars Oscar winner Tom Hanks as Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger.

On January 15, 2009, the world witnessed the “Miracle on the Hudson” when Captain “Sully” Sullenberger glided his disabled plane onto the frigid waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. However, even as Sully was being heralded by the public and the media for his unprecedented feat of aviation skill, an investigation was unfolding that threatened to destroy his reputation and his career.

“Sully” also stars Aaron Eckhart as Sully’s co-pilot, Jeff Skiles, and Oscar nominee Laura Linney as Sully’s wife, Lorraine Sullenberger.

Eastwood is directing the film from a screenplay by Todd Komarnicki, based on the book Highest Duty by Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow.

The ALEXA IMAX 65mm camera that Eastwood used in filming “Sully” is a next-generation revolutionary 2D digital camera developed through a partnership between ARRI and IMAX for use by today's leading filmmakers working in the IMAX® format. The camera, when combined with IMAX’s digital re-mastering process, delivers the highest level of digital image capture and playback resulting in stunning lifelike images with pristine clarity, incredibly fine detail, vivid colors and a higher dynamic range for superior contrast.

Most films today are presented in an aspect ratio called CinemaScope (2.40:1). When a film is presented in CinemaScope, it is cropped and uses only part of the image the movie camera captures. This is the reason most ordinary screens are very wide but not particularly high.

With “Sully,” IMAX provided Eastwood with the ability to use an expanded aspect ratio for the film's IMAX presentation during production through filming with the extremely high-resolution IMAX® camera.

Opening across the Philippines on Thursday, Sept. 08 in IMAX and regular cinemas,“Sully” is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

HUMAN CHARACTERS OF “STORKS” READY FOR THEIR CLOSE-UP

After last week’s reveal of its animal character posters, Warner Bros. Pictures has now unveiled the individual one-sheets of the human cast of its new animated comedy adventure “Storks.”  Check out the posters below and watch the film when it opens in Philippine cinemas on Sept. 22.

In the film, storks deliver babies…or at least they used to. Now they deliver packages for global internet retail giant Cornerstore.com.  Junior (Andy Samberg), the company’s top delivery stork, is about to be promoted when the Baby Factory is accidentally activated on his watch, producing an adorable – and wholly unauthorized – baby girl.

Desperate to deliver this bundle of trouble before the boss gets wise, Junior and his friend Tulip, the only human on Stork Mountain, race to make their first-ever baby drop, in a wild and revealing journey that could make more than one family whole and restore the storks’ true mission in the world.

Getting their own posters are the following human characters:

Sarah and Henry Gardner (voice by Jennifer Aniston and Ty Burrell) are two busy parents who have trouble finding time for their son, Nate. As a result, he writes a letter to the storks asking them for a baby brother, although they haven't been in the kid business for 18 years.

Tulip (voice by Katie Crown) is the last baby made at Stork Mountain. She was orphaned 18 years ago when an accident destroyed her delivery address. "The only thing she knows is Stork Mountain and the world of storks, and she's desperate to find her parents," Stoller says.

Nate Gardner (voice by Anton Starkman) ropes his parents into preparing their house for a baby delivery. His folks play along not because they think it will happen, but because they're reminded how much fun it is to play with their child.

The Baby is the adorable pink-haired toddler who sets the plot in motion.
“Storks” stars Andy Samberg (“Hotel Transylvania”), Kelsey Grammer (“Toy Story 2,” “The Simpsons”), Katie Crown (Cartoon Network’s “Clarence”), Keegan-Michael Key (“The Angry Birds Movie”), Jordan Peele (“Key & Peele”), Jennifer Aniston (“We’re the Millers”), Ty Burrell (“Modern Family”), and Danny Trejo (“The Book of Life”).
The film is directed by Nicholas Stoller (“Neighbors,” BAFTA nominee for “Muppets Most Wanted”) and Doug Sweetland (supervising animator on “Cars,” Oscar-nominated director of the animated short “Presto”), from a screenplay written by Stoller.
“Storks” is produced by Brad Lewis (“Ratatouille”) and Nicholas Stoller.  The executive producers are Glenn Ficarra, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, John Requa and Jared Stern.

“Storks” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

DEVON SERON was born in Cebu on May 20, 1993, she grew up in a slum area. She has scoliosis and despite their being poor, her parents enrolled her in a pricey private school near their home, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, so she doesn’t have to walk far. She ended up as 4th placer in PBB Teens 2010, where James Reid won. PBB paid for the rest of her tuition fee so she could finish high school. She then started taking up business management at STI, but she stopped when she got busy with showbiz work.

After PBB, she made the rounds of various ABS-CBN shows and was cast as a mainstay in “Shoutout” in 2011 and later, “Mula Sa Puso”. She also did several episodes of MMK and GMA-7’s “Maynila”. She also played supporting roles in “Angelito”, “Apoy sa Dagat”, “Maria Mercedes”, “Moon of Desire”, “You’re My Home”. She’s now being seen regularly in the hit morning soap, “Be My Lady”.

She has also appeared in several movies, doing supporting roles in Star Cinema’s “The Reunion”, “Maybe This Time”, “Halik sa Hangin”, “Everything About Her” and Regal’s “Haunted Mansion” and “I Love You to Death”.

She’s the original ka-love team of James Reid after PBB when they were paired in “Good Vibes”. How does she feel now that James is a top matinee idol and found a new partner in Nadine Lustre? “Honestly, I’m very happy for him. Nagkahiwalay kami when he left ABS and moved to Viva at ako naman, I was paired with Sam Concepcion in ‘Angelito’. Everything happens naman daw for a reason, di ba? Last weekend, we finally saw each other again ni James after three years in ‘Showtime’ kasi he’s promoting their show. I congratulated him for his success.”

How does she feel now that Mother Lily signed her up to a contract and will be given a lead role in the possible Metro Filmfest entry, “Pwera Usog”, a horror movie? “I was so happy when I was informed na Regal is getting me. Mangiyak-ngiyak nga ako sa tuwa and I promise I will do my very best at ibubuhos ko lahat ng makakaya ko sa projects nila for me.”

How does she feel that she’s one of the top winners of PBB 2010 but Yen Santos, who’s one of the housemates evicted early in the show, is now a bigger star than her and even paired with Piolo Pascual? “I’m happy for her. Aminado naman akong mas magaling si Ate Yen kaysa sa’kin kasi ilang beses na rin siyang nabigyan ng lead roles sa soaps sa ABS. Hindi ako naiinggit. Basta I just use it as motivation para mas lalo kong paghusayin ang trabaho ko."

Yen Santos Grateful To Mother Lily Monteverde For Giving Her Her Very First Movie, 'Once In A Lifetime, With Piolo Pascual

MOTHER LILY MONTEVERDE has signed up two Kapamilya talents to do movies for Regal Multi-Media, Yen Santos and Devon Seron, and Regal is determined to build them up to be big movie stars. “I like them because they are both full of promise,” says Mother Lily. “They can also act well so I see I bright future for both of them.”

Yen (full name is Lilieyen) was discovered through “Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Clash 2010” where James Reid won. Born on Nov. 20, 1992 in Cabanatuan City, she joined PBB as one of the teen housemates. “Para maging in, napabarkada ako noong high school sa isang grupong nagka-cut classes at pinatawag ang parents ko sa school,” she says. “My mom said sumali na lang ako sa PBB. Ayoko sana kasi sobrang mahiyain ako noon, pero mapilit siya, so pinagbigyan ko. Sabi ko, wag siyang madi-disappoint kapag di ako nakuha. We went to Tarlac para mag-audition. First time ko mag-try sa ganun. Akala ko, di ako nakuha, then they told me to go to Baguio for the second screening. Ayun, nag-qualify ako. Umabot ang stay ko sa loob ng bahay ni Kuya for one and a half months. After that, I thought back to normal na ang buhay ko, pero pinatawag ako ng ABS at isinali sa ‘Good Vibes’, my first regular show. Tapos, pinag-attend na ako ng acting workshops ng Star Magic.”

She then appeared in several episodes of MMK and Wansapanataym, and did supporting roles in shows like Growing Up, Ikaw ang Pag-ibig, E-boy, Okatokat, Dugong Buhay. Her big break came in “Pure Love" in 2014 where she played a lead role, along with Alex Gonzaga. This was followed by “Dream Dad” and in last year’s “All of Me” where she met Director Dondon Santos who has now cast her in the lead role of Regal’s “Once in A Lifetime: Northern Lights” opposite Piolo Pascual, filmed in New Zealand.

She has also started taping for a new soap, “Because You Loved Me”, where she’s paired with Gerald Anderson and Jake Cuenca, shot on location in Mindoro, with Dan Villegas as director. “Hindi pa tapos ang movie with Piolo, may remaining scenes pa kami to be shot here in Manila. Hindi pa rin tapos yung bagong soap and I don’t know when we’ll resume taping kasi naging busy si Direk Dan in co-directing the new JaDine soap.”

Star Magic Talents Set A Good Example By Willingly Submitting To A Drug Test

FORTY TALENTS OF ABS-CBN Star Magic willingly submitted to a drug test over the weekend amid the government's campaign against illegal drugs. Thess Gubi of Star Magic said it conducted "a supervised and voluntary drug test" last Saturday "to belay rumors of drug use in its community.

Results were 100% negative for Jake Cuenca, Enrique Gil and Diego Loyzaga and the rest of the Star Magic artists. Star Magic believes in the efforts of the current campaign to keep our homes and working environments drug-free.”

They should have provided the name of the other ABS-CBN talents who had a drug test as they should also be commended. Maybe other stars should also submit themselves to a drug test to prove they are clean and to set a good example to young people.

Joross Gamboa Joins 'Superstar Duets' Now That 'Juan Happy Love Story' Is Ending

JOROSS GAMBOA as Bob will shock the followers of the hit primetime romcom that ends on Friday, “Juan Happy Love Story”, because Kim Domingo as Agatha will get pregnant and it will turn out that he is the father and not Kim’s lover in the story, Dennis Trillo as Juan.

“Unfair nga,” he says when we visited the set of “Juan Happy Love Story”. “Ni wala man lang kaming matinding love scene ni Kim. Sila ni Dennis ang laging maraming bed scene, tapos ako pala yung tatay ng baby niya. Sabi ko nga kay Direk, baka puede ipakita sa flashbacks kung paano nabuo yung baby,” he jokes.

He enjoyed doing “Juan Happy Love Story” so much. “Kasi napakita ko yung comic side ko. Si Bob dito, maloko, mayabang, pero deep inside, mabait siya at loyal friend kay Heart. Natutuwa nga ako kapag binabasa ko yung comments sa’kin. Puro positive.”

So what’s next after “Juan Happy Love Story”? Will he go back to being a Kapamilya? “Free lance naman ako ngayon, puede ako kahit saang network. But my manager, si Noel Ferrer, sobrang bilib sa’kin, ipinasok naman ako sa singing contest. Part ako ngayon ng ‘Superstar Duets’ hosted by Jennylyn Mercado that starts airing on September 3 na.”

So how’s Noel doing these days? “Galing lang sa States. Aalis na naman daw for London. Hindi na nga namin nakikitang mga talent niya. Tine-text lang kami. Alam naming nasa abroad na naman siya, kapag bina-Viber na kami about our schedules. Pero enjoy naman ako sa ‘Superstar Duets’. Naka-two taping days na kami. Mga kasama ko rito, sina Jerald Napoles, Pecto, Rita Daniela, Denise Barbacena at iba pang singers. Sabi ko, ako lang ang hindi totoong singer dito, a. Kaya kino-comedy ko na lang. Ang ka-duet namin dito, well known singers. Sa’kin, ang ka-duet ko, si Adelle. Kinanta na namin yung ‘Rolling in the Deep’. Then ‘Someone Like You’. Sabi ko nga, kung si Adelle mismo, nahihirapan dun sa kanta niya, di lalo na ako. Sina Christian Bautista, Allan K at Aicelle Santos ang judges namin.”

Isn’t he scared he might be bashed by viewers? “Naku, inunahan ko na sila. Bina-bash ko yung mga kasamahan kong contestants.”

Joross remains to be a doting dad to his son who’s turning one year old in October. He got a new house for them in Paranaque. “Dati si Tirso Cruz III ang neighbor ko, ngayon si Christopher de Leon na.”

Daniel Padilla Had A Grand Time With Kathryn Bernardo In Spain Shooting 'Barcelona: A Love Untold'

DANIEL PADILLA and Kathryn Bernardo had a grand time shooting their new movie on location in Barcelona, Spain. Their new flick is titled “Barcelona: A Love Untold” and it will open in theaters on September 14. It will show the scenic spots of that beautiful city, including the famous Sagrada Familia Basilica.

“The whole experience is very memorable,” says Daniel. “Parang bitin nga kasi one day lang kami nabigyan ng off para mag-tour. Most of the time, we were shooting.”

So did shooting together in a foreign place bring them closer to each other? “Siempre naman. Bawat araw ng pagsasama namin doon brought us closer sa isa’t isa. Every single day is unforgettable. Dahil limited lang ang crew, kami mismo, tumutulong din sa production kaya kakaiba talaga ang naging bonding namin doon.”

How is it working with Direk Olivia Lamasan, who did such past hits as “Sana Maulit Muli” (shot in the USA) and “Milan” (shot in Italy)? “It’s a great experience working with her. Magaling talaga siya at tinulungan niya kami hindi lang maging mabuting aktor, kundi maging mabuting tao. We learned so much from her. Tiwala kami talaga sa kanya and I can say na very proud kami sa aming movie na ‘Barcelona, A Love Untold’. This is our most mature portrayals so far and we’re sure magugustuhan talaga ito ng lahat ng manonood nito.”

Kathryn plays Mia, a young woman who goes to Spain trying to run away from her problems and attempts committing suicide but is saved by Daniel as Ely who tells her: "Kaunting hirap lang, susuko ka na agad? Masabihan lang ng kaunti, aalis. Kapag pumalpak, tatakas! Alam mo, Mia, Hindi ka talaga puwede sa ibang bansa eh! Ang hina mo!" Eventually Ely helps Mia to rise again from her failures, move on, and they eventually develop feelings for each other.

Julie Ann San Jose Admits She And Benjamin Alves Are Exclusively Dating: 'What You See Is What You Get'

JULIE ANN SAN JOSE disproves the rumor that she is moving to another network as she just renewed her contract with GMA-7 for another three years. “Happy naman po ako as a Kapuso, so bakit ako lilipat?” she says when asked about this at the 1st anniversary presscon of “Sunday Pinasaya”. “Never kong binalak na umalis ng GMA kasi very supportive sila sa akin all these years.”

She loves being part of “Sunday Pinasaya”. “Nakakatuwa kasi, buong first year namin, sinuportahan kami ng viewers at laging wagi ang show sa ratings. I think nakikita nilang isang pamilya kami sa show na nagsusuportahan. Grabe talaga ang teamwork ng buong cast at walang dull moment when we’re all together. Sa rehearsals pa lang, ang saya-saya na.”

About her lovelife, after being paired with Elmo Magalona and being linked to Alden Richards, she’s now said to be romantically involved with Benjamin Alves after he appeared as her leading man in a music video of one of her new songs. So what’s the real score between them?

“We’re exclusively dating. And he’s so nice kasi he defends me against my bashers. Mabait siya and God-fearing. My parents like him. Wala naman kaming itinatago. Pero pareho kami ng sinasabi at this point, what you see is what you get. So let’s just leave it at that. Abangan nyo na lang ang production number namin sa two-part anniversary presentation ng ‘Sunday Pinasaya’ on September 4 and 11. Masaya siya talaga.”
