Mother Lily Monteverde Of Regal Entertainment Honored By The First Eddy Awards As Producer Of The Year

THE FIRST EDDY AWARDS from entertainment editors will be held tonight at Kia Theatre and a special award goes to Mother Lily Yu Monteverde as producer of the year. She is most certainly deserving to receive that honor as her love affair with film production now spans almost six decades.

Mother Lily’s passion for the art of filmmaking has never dwindled at all through the years. Regal's treasure trove of blockbuster films gave rise to some of the country's biggest name celebrities like Gabby Concepcion, Maricel Soriano, Snooky Serna, Dina Bonnevie, Aga Muhlach and Albert Martinez, among many others.

Regal is the home of now classic films from multi-awarded directors such as Manila by Night/City After Dark, Pahiram ng Isang Umaga and Relasyon by National Artist Ishmael Bernal, Sister Stella L by Mike de Leon, Scorpio Nights, Underage, Bilangin ang mga Bituin sa Langit and its highly successful Metro Manila Filmfest franchises Mano Po and Shake, Rattle & Roll series, to name a few.

In addition to these, Regal was the first to revolutionize the film production landscape through its experimental "pito-pito" movies of many years ago that produced directors like Jeffrey Jeturian (Sana Pagibig Na, Pila Balde, Tuhog) and Lav Diaz (Ang Kriminal ng Bo. Concepcion, Jesus Rebolusyonaryo). Mother Lily and Regal are, no doubt, key players in the history of Philippine cinema. They continue to be so in this millennial day and age, so we’re glad that the Eddy Awards is honoring Mother Lily for her countless contributions to the film industry.
