The new trailer from director Todd Phillips' (“The Hangover” trilogy) comedic drama “War Dogs,” starring Jonah Hill and Miles Teller has just been launched.

Based on a true story, “War Dogs” follows two friends in their early 20s (Hill and Teller) living in Miami Beach during the Iraq War who exploit a little-known government initiative that allows small businesses to bid on U.S. Military contracts. Starting small, they begin raking in big money and are living the high life. But the pair gets in over their heads when they land a 300 million dollar deal to arm the Afghan Military—a deal that puts them in business with some very shady people, not the least of which turns out to be the U.S. Government.

The film also stars Ana de Armas (“Knock Knock”) and Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper.

The screenplay is by Stephen Chin and Todd Phillips & Jason Smilovic, based on the Rolling Stone article titled “Arms and the Dudes,” by Guy Lawson. Mark Gordon (“Steve Jobs”), Todd Phillips and Bradley Cooper are the producers, with David Siegel and Bryan Zuriff serving as executive producers.

Opening across the Philippines on August 24, “War Dogs” is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

‘Independence Day” Movie Review: So Boring Compared To The First One

“INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE” comes exactly 20 years after the first movie was released in 1996. The original was memorable and really shocked us with the destruction of well known international landmarks like the White House, Eiffel Tower, Sydney Opera House, etc. In the 20 years that passed since it was shown , we’ve been treated to other disaster movies showing the demolition of other familiar icons and places, from the Marvel flicks to “Men in Black”, “Transformers”, “X Men”, etc.

When it comes to Destruction-Demolition Porn now, nothing else can shock us anymore, honestly. So why do they still have to make a sequel of “Independence Day” when there’s nothing new to show?
The U.S. now has a female president, and it’s not Hilary Clinton but Sela Ward. But the former president in the first movie, Bill Pullman, is back here and he’s having dreams about another alien attack. Also back is Jeff Goldblum as David Levinson, a scientist who’s an expert in global defense, with Judd Hirsch once again appearing as his dad who’s tasked to ferry a school bus full of children to safety.

Jeff had a good tandem with Will Smith as a hero pilot in the first movie. Obviously, Will turned down doing the sequel (he must have read the atrocious screenplay) so, in his stead, there’s a character who is supposed to be his son, played by new actor Jessie Usher who, unfortunately, is so devoid of any star quality

And there’s another hotshot fighter pilot, a white boy played by Liam Hemsworth, whose leading lady is the daughter of the ex-president, Maika Monroe, such a bland actress you’d wonder what the hunky Liam sees in her. Goldlum is also given his own unsavory love interest, Charlotte Gainsbourg as Dr. Catherine Marceau, a scientist who studies alien symbols. Alas, all of them are just wasted in this movie.

No less than five people (including original creators Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin) are credited in writing the script, but they miserably fail to provide coherence and wit to all the proceedings on screen with several narrative strands that don’t really go anywhere. They just made the alien spaceship now much bigger and more gigantic, enough to cover the whole Atlantic Ocean and it possesses its own field of gravity it can suck up entire cities. The plan of the aliens is to kill all humans and get our natural resources by drilling into Planet Earth’s very core.

The first movie was definitely much more fun, with witty lines and great special effects. It was imitated by a lot of other movies and now, the sequel doesn’t have any new thing to offer anymore. It’s just so boring. Our grandson fell asleep and I can’t blame him. This is about as big a fiasco as Emmerich and Devlin’s forgettable remake of “Godzilla”. Even the movie’s climax, showing the alien queen with octopus-like tentacles, being chased by fighter planes, fails to provide any real thrills, just like the movie’s strained attempts at humor. Ho-hum....

New Talented Comedian Jerald Napoles Admits He Looks More Like A Goon Than A Funnyman

JERALD NAPOLES is one of our busiest comedians today, doing various TV shows, theatre work and movies. He is currently seen in two shows on Sundays. At noontime, he’s in “Sunday PinaSaya” and at 5:30 PM, he’s in the new sitcom,”Conan My Beautician”. He’s being seen on weekends in the re-staging of the hit PETA musical, “Rak of Aegis”, in his breakthrough role as Tolits.

On the big screen, he’s doing supporting roles in Regal’s “That Thing Called Tanga Na” as the rival of Eric Quizon over Albie Casino, APT Entertainment’s “Imagine You and Me” with Aldub love team, and in Viva’s “Camp Sawi” with Bela Padilla and Andi Eigenmann. But in the ToFarm Filmfest, he plays the lead role in the entry, “Pauwi Na”, as the leading man of Meryll Soriano, co-starring Bembol Roco and Cherry Pie Picache, directed by Paulo Villaluna.

“Based ito sa true story ng isang mahirap na pamilyang pagod na sa Maynila at gustong umuwi ng Bicol, pero wala silang pamasahe kaya nag-pedicab lang sila all the way home,” he says. “Parang road movie at talagang kinunan namin sa mga highway papuntang Bicol.”

He never expected to hit it big as a comedian. “Kasi mas mukha akong goons, di ba?” he says. “Sa teatro talaga ako nagsimula. I was taking up mechanical engineering sa PLM, pero gusto ko talagang umarte. My first big play was Floy Quintos’ ‘St. Louis Loves them Filipinos’ sa Dulaang UP. Pero napansin ako talaga, sa ‘Magsimula Ka’, na first comedic role ko, followed by ‘Zsa Zsa Zaturnaaah’. Doon nalamang hindi lang ako pang-goons. Sinundan ito ng ‘Caredivas’, another hit PETA play, and then ng ‘Rak of Aegis’, kunsaan nag-click yung tambalan namin ni Aicelle Santos. Blessing talaga sa’kin yun kasi doon ako napansin ng GMA-7 at binigyan na ako ng sunod-sunod na TV shows like ‘Nino’, ‘My Faithful Husband’ and ‘That’s My Amboy’.”

Is he related to the pork barrel scam queen? “No, tinanong ko ang tatay ko kung kamag-anak namin si Janet. Baka makahirit ng balato, e. Pero sabi ng tatay, wag ka nang umasa dahil wala kang maaasahan.”

Does people recognize him in public now? “Nagugulat nga ako, nakikilala na pala ako. Lalo ngayon, bading ang role ko sa ‘Conan My Beautician’ at kontrabida ako kay Mark Herras. Takaw pansin ang ganyang roles, e.”

Is he gay? “No, but I have nothing against gays. There should be no discrimination. Kunsaan masaya ang isang tao, let them be. Let’s respect the LGBT community.”

Alden Richards & Maine Mendoza Says Their 1st Anniversary Movie, 'Imagine You & Me, Is Full Of Contagious Kilig Romantic Moments

ALDEN RICHARDS and Maine Mendoza are very upbeat about the positive feedback that the full trailer of their much awaited first anniversary movie, “Imagine You & Me”, is getting from the public. Everyone thinks it’s full of contagious and uplifting kilig romantic moments

“The creative team of ‘Imagine You & Me’ headed by Direk Mike Tuviera really worked so hard on the project from conceptualization to actual location shoot for three weeks in the beautiful cities of Como and Verona in Italy,” says Alden. “They made sure that the whole movie is full of so much love, romance and bittersweet moments in each and every scene. Tiyak na lahat ng manonood nito can’t help but also fall in love all over again.”

Today’s hottest love team is beautifully photographed in the movie and viewers will feel the real emotions that Alden and Maine have for each other. “What you’ll see in us in the movie is what you’ll get,” says Maine. “Everything is real, genuine, natural lang po lahat.”

From the simple young lady from Santa Maria, Bulacan, who auditioned in “Eat Bulaga!” armed with nothing but her talent in dubsmash, Maine rose to popularity as Yaya Dub (Divina Ursula Bokbokoba), Lola Nidora’s (Wally Bayola) devoted nanny in the noontime show’s phenomenal Kalye Serye. Alden was already part of the EB Dabarkads when Maine joined “Eat Bulaga” but was just a regular host when his and Maine’s paths crossed in the now-famous Kalye Serye.

The rest, as they say, is AlDub history, a huge success the world over. The AlDub tandem also made Twitter record worldwide with the AlDub Nation fans registering more than 40 million tweets for Kalye Serye. Their special episode, ‘Tamang Panahon,” held at the Philippine Arena last year posted another record in terms of attendance, proceeds of which were used to finance AlDub libraries. They both become in demand as endorsers of various products.

Now, the sensational pair is undoubtedly ripe for a launching movie. And so, APT Entertainment, GMA Films and M-ZET Television, Inc. have joined forces for “Imagine You & Me”, where Alden is Andrew, a heartbroken guy based in Italy while Maine is Gara, an overseas worker searching for Mr. Right. Andrew and Gara belong to two different worlds and have opposing views on love. In short, they are incompatible. Is there a chance for two people like Andrew and Gara to fall in love with each other?

“It’s worth the long wait for this movie,” Direk Mike promises.”Mas mai-in love sa kanila ang AlDub fans after watching ‘Imagine You & Me’.”

As a bonus, Maine wrote and sang the movie’s theme solo and in a duet with Alden. Feel and spread the love from Alden and Maine in “Imagine You & Me” when it opens in cinemas nationwide on July 13.

Allen Dizon Delivers Potentially Award-Winning Performances In Two Films That Are Entries In The World Premieres Filmfest And Cinemalaya Filmfest

ALLEN DIZON is undoubtedly the king of local film festivals. After winning best actor awards in Sinag Maynila as the aging hosto in “Imbisibol” and in the Metro-Manila Filmfest New Wave section as the guilt-laden coffin maker in “Magkakabaung”, he now has entries in two new local festivals.

Currently being shown is “Iadya Mo Kami (Deliver Us from Evil)” where he just won as best actor in the Silk Road International Filmfest in Dublin, Ireland. This is an entry in the ongoing World Premieres Filmfest and he plays a young priest who is assigned to a remote mountain after he gets a parishioner pregnant in Manila. This will have its gala premiere at SM Megamall on Saturday, July 2, 8 PM. It will have regular screenings at Megamall on Sunday, July 3, 3 PM and on Tuesday, July 5, 7 PM. It will be shown at SM North Edsa on Thursday, July 7, 5 PM, Saturday, July 9, 7 PM and Sunday, July 10 at 5 PM. Tickets are only for P100.

In August, he also has an entry in the Cinemalaya Filmfest, “Lando at Bugoy” written and directed by Vic Acedillo. This is the story of a father who’s a high school dropout, played by Allen. His own son, Gold Azeron, won’t go to school because of this and has a very low regard for him because he’s unschooled. Because of this, he returns to school to get a proper education, along with his son, and their relationship as father and son blooms along the way. We won’t be surprised if Allen would win another acting award for his performance in any of these film festival entries.

The Reason Why Kris Aquino Chooses To Be A Guest In Marian Rivera's Talk Show After She Returns From Her Hawaiian Vacation

KRIS AQUINO is back in town and, unexpectedly, her first public appearance is not in an ABS-CBN show but on GMA-7. We were at the GMA Studios last Wednesday night for the presscon of Jake Vargas when we learned that Kris is currently in the Kapuso premises taping for her guest appearance in Marian Rivera’s “Yan ang Morning”, along with Yan’s hubby, Dingdong Dantes.

The official reason given is that Kris is one of Yan and Dong’s ninangs sa kasal, so they are quite close, and Kris also wants to acknowledge the fact that the couple supported her bet for vice president in the last election, VP Leni Robredo, who had her inauguration yesterday. Kris’ appearance in “Yan ang Morning” will be aired today, Friday, and here’s hoping it will rate really high.

Of course, some detractors of Kris allege that she did this just to whet the appetite of ABS-CBN bosses, who do not seem to be that excited to renew her expired contract with them. “Matalino si Kris,” says one obvious non-Kris fan. “Siempre, gagawin niyang leverage ang paglabas niya sa GMA para she can boost her stock and make demands sa ABS- CBN when she renews her contract with them. Ginawa niya rin yan the last time her contract expired at ABS at kunwari, lilipat siya kay Manny Pangilinan sa TV5, pero hindi naman niya ginawa.”

She’s back! Principal photography has begun on New Line Cinema’s “Annabelle 2,” with David F. Sandberg (upcoming “Lights Out”) helming the follow up to 2014’s hugely successful “Annabelle,” which scared up nearly $257 million at the worldwide box office during its run in theaters. The new film is once again being produced by Peter Safran and James Wan, who also partnered so effectively on “The Conjuring” movies.

In “Annabelle 2,” several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.

The film stars Stephanie Sigman (“Spectre”), Talitha Bateman (“The 5th Wave”), Lulu Wilson (upcoming “Ouija 2,” “Deliver Us from Evil”), Philippa Anne Coulthard (“After the Dark”), Grace Fulton (“Badland”), Lou Lou Safran (“The Choice”), Samara Lee (“Fox Catcher,” “The Last Witch Hunter”), Tayler Buck in her feature film debut, with Anthony LaPaglia (TV’s “Without a Trace”) and Miranda Otto (Showtime’s “Homeland,” “The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy).

Sandberg directs from a screenplay by Gary Dauberman, who also wrote “Annabelle.” Filming is taking place in Los Angeles.

Collaborating with Sandberg behind-the-scenes from his “Lights Out” team are production designer Jennifer Spence and editor Michel Aller, joined by director of photography Maxime Alexandre (“The Other Side of the Door”) and costume designer Leah Butler (“Paranormal Activity 3 & 4”).

Currently scheduled for release beginning May 19, 2017, “Annabelle 2,” is a New Line Cinema presentation, an Atomic Monster/Safran Company production. The film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

The first trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures' real-life airborne thriller “Sully” has just taken off. The Tom Hanks-starrer opens in Philippine cinemas on September 8th.

From Oscar-winning director Clint Eastwood comes Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Sully,” starring Oscar winner Tom Hanks as Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger.

On January 15, 2009, the world witnessed the “Miracle on the Hudson” when Captain “Sully” Sullenberger glided his disabled plane onto the frigid waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. However, even as Sully was being heralded by the public and the media for his unprecedented feat of aviation skill, an investigation was unfolding that threatened to destroy his reputation and his career.

“Sully” also stars Aaron Eckhart as Sully’s co-pilot, Jeff Skiles, and Oscar nominee Laura Linney as Sully’s wife, Lorraine Sullenberger.

Eastwood is directing the film from a screenplay by Todd Komarnicki, based on the book Highest Duty by Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow. The project is being produced by Eastwood, Frank Marshall, Allyn Stewart and Tim Moore, with Kipp Nelson and Bruce Berman serving as executive producers.

The film reunites Eastwood with several of his longtime collaborators, who most recently worked with the director on the worldwide hit “American Sniper”: director of photography Tom Stern and production designer James J. Murakami, who were both Oscar-nominated for their work on “The Changeling”; costume designer Deborah Hopper; and editor Blu Murray.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, a Flashlight Films production, a Kennedy/Marshall Company production, a Malpaso production, “Sully.” The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Australian actress Margot Robbie (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Focus”) emerged as a breakout star with her captivating onscreen presence and has quickly become one of the busiest actresses in the industry.

Now, she stars as a feisty Jane to Alexander Skarsgård’s “king of the jungle” in Warner Bros. Pictures' new action-adventure, “The Legend of Tarzan” (opening in Philippine cinemas June 30.)
Robbie appreciated the film’s more contemporary approach to the couple. “It’s set in the 1800s, but it has a very modern feel to it, with universal themes that are applicable no matter what day and age it is,” she says. “There is a fantastic adventure, but with a wonderful romance at its core. I liked that it’s not the origin story of Tarzan and Jane meeting in the jungle. Their relationship is more complex now.”
One crucial quality in the casting of both Skarsgård and Robbie was the chemistry between the two actors. “It was vital to immediately feel the love between John and Jane,” director David Yates affirms, “because they are separated not long after arriving in Africa. Although they are kept apart for a significant amount of time, you have to believe their bond is unbreakable.”
“I think their romance is what gives you the emotional investment in the outcome of the story because, at the end of the day, you want them to be reunited,” Robbie relates. “I’m a sucker for a good love story, and the mere notion that Tarzan will go to the ends of the earth to get Jane back can make you a little giddy…especially when it’s Alexander Skarsgård,” she smiles. “He has a great presence and was so committed to his role, but beyond that, he’s just the nicest, nicest guy and a dream to work with.”
The feeling was mutual. “Margot is so lovely and has the most effervescent personality,” Skarsgård says. “It was so much fun working with her. She’s also a pretty tough Australian girl, and definitely tapped into that in creating Jane.”
The director points to Robbie’s innate strength as a reason he wanted her for the role. “Jane has to be feisty and passionate. She’s not a wilting flower waiting to be saved; she can kick some ass. Margot is not only an amazing actress, she has spunk and I love that about her. She made Jane a formidable, contemporary woman.”
Robbie makes it clear she would not have had it any other way, stating, “I’ve never wanted to play the damsel in distress, and Jane is anything but. David and I both agreed that she should be perceived as a very fiery and strong person, so I was excited about that. She is capable of fighting back, which also creates a terrific dynamic with Christoph Waltz’s character, who is the main villain. It’s more like mind games between them, which is interesting because while there are physical battles going on, you also have fighting on an intellectual field.”
Following “The Legend of Tarzan,” Robbie stars as Harley Quinn in the much-anticipated action adventure “Suicide Squad,” marking the first time the fan-favorite comic book villain will be seen on the big screen. Robbie joins an ensemble cast, also including Will Smith, Jared Leto and Joel Kinnaman, in the film, directed by David Ayer and opening on August 4 in the Philippines.
From Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures comes the action adventure “The Legend of Tarzan,” starring Alexander Skarsgård as the legendary character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
The film also stars Oscar nominee Samuel L. Jackson, Margot Robbie, Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou, with Oscar winner Jim Broadbent and two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz.
It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.
“The Legend of Tarzan” is distributed in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

The multi-awarded Danny Tan makes ‘Furry Tails’ come true

Many successful men look beyond their horizons to conquer other fields and meet new challenges. When multi-awarded international composer, arranger, musical director, record and concert producer, and TV personality Danny Tan diversified by opening a one-of-a-kind pet store, pet salon and spa and pet wellness 16 years ago, he never looked back.
Furry Tails started as Under the Sea & Other Creatures. The flagship store at SM City North Edsa became so huge that before long, other branches opened at SM City Sta. Rosa, Fairview Terraces Ayala Malls and SM Sta. Rosa. A 4th store recently opened this April at SM City Fairview, Upper Ground Floor, Main Building.  Soon, Furry Tails was recognized as one of the major players in the Philippine pet industry “where your pet’s dreams come true,” as the company slogan goes.
Like any business that hits it big, Furry Tails has evolved into a one-stop shop for everything that has to do with pets. It sells a wide selection of pet food and accessories.
Don’t be surprised, though, if your pets’ calendars will soon be filled with their own activities.
For kids, seeing Furry Tails mascot Lhulu Shih Tzu would be a treat. There’s also the live dog mascot named RAFA; a cream chow-chow, who greets clients at the entrance and socializes with pet clients and pet parents.
Or does the pet parent have other plans for the day? No problem.
The recently opened 5th store at SM Megamall, 5th Level, Bldg. A (near car park entrance/exit door) has a dog jacuzzi and a doggie daycare with a playround kit where dogs can interact and play together while pet parents attend to other errands.  They can pick up their “babies” before closing mall hours. No overnight lodging is provided, though.
Because pet dogs are treated as truly special members of the Filipino family, Furry Tails has pulled out all the stops to offer products and services to include our furry friends in the pet parents/owners’ day-to-day activities as much as possible.  As in all of its branches, the pet boutique at SM Megamall carries a wide variety of dog supplies such as clothes and costumes, travel bags, back packs, sling bags, strollers, trolleys, tents, potty trainers, beds, cooling mats, grooming and fashion accessories, feeding accessories, frosty bowls, shampoos and conditioners, colognes, anti flea treatments, pet food and delicious treats.
Being a world-class salon and spa for dogs and dog lovers, it offers services and amenities for man’s best friend’s ultimate pampering experience.   Aside from its basic grooming services, Furry Tails offers personalized and creative grooming styles, pet aqua massage, pet massage, pet aromatherapy, pet mud therapy, pet SPA hair treatments, pet hair coloring, PETicure, aromatic bath salt treatment, charcoal bath and other innovative and exciting service packages. And with its new store design comes the state-of-the-art hydraulic grooming tables, grooming equipment and sterilizer.

Richard Yap Signs Up With Regal Entertainment To Do The New 'Mano Po' Movie, An Entry In The Metro Manila Filmfest This Coming December

RICHARD YAP signs up with Regal Entertainment for a new project. This is his second movie with them after supporting Dennis Trillo and Maja Salvador in last year’s “You’re Still the One”. A late bloomer as an actor, Richard became a household name as Sir Chief in “Be Careful with My Heart”. His latest assignment with ABS-CBN, the movie “The Achy Breaky Hearts”, is currently being shown in theaters nationwide.

Last Tuesday, Mother Lily set up a special presscon just for his contract signing with Regal. He will be doing Regal’s Metro-Manila Filmfest entry, “Mano Po 7: Chinoy”. “Yes, it's definite na, we will join the filmfest,” says Mother Lily. “This will be shot partly in China. It will show the struggle of Chinoys who are born here in Manila but somehow feel discriminated against even if they are Filipinos through and through. As of now, ang sure na kasama sa casting are Jean Garcia as Richard’s wife, Janella Salvador and Enchong Dee as their children. We also want to get Kim Chiu

kasi Chinese din siya, so sana ipahiram sa amin. We will get another top actress pa to play the role of Richard's other woman. I’m so proud, happy and excited na nakuha namin si Richard for the new ‘Mano Po’ movie. If ever I would be reincarnated, I want to be the next Mrs. Richard Yap.” “I’m also happy and proud to be a part of this very successful film franchise,” says Richard. “Napanood ko yung ibang ‘Mano Po’ movies before, like the one with Zsa Zsa Padilla and Sharon Cuneta. I never thought that someday, I will be a part of a new ‘Mano Po’ movie. May advantage lang ako sa ibang actors na nakasama before sa cast ng ‘Mano Po’ movies kasi totoong Chinese ako.

Nakita ko ang naging life ng parents ko, ng uncles ko, yung traditions nila as Chinese families. Ako mismo, I defied our tradition kasi they want me to marry a Chinese girl pero pinili yung misis ko, who’s Filipina. Dahil dito, hindi ako naisali sa mga negosyo ng family namin. But before my parents passed, nagkaayos rin kami uli kasi I had a son. E, ako lang ang nagkaroon ng anak na lalaki sa mga kapatid ko kaya naging okay ako sa kanila.”

The first “Mano Po, My Family” was made by Joel Lamangan in 2002 and won most of the awards in the Metro filmfest that year. This was followed by “Mano Po 2, My Home” in 2003 directed by Erik Matti, then by “Mano Po 3, My Love” with Vilma Santos in 2004. “Mano Po 4: Ako Legal Wife” came in 2005 with Zsa Zsa Padilla. “Mano Po 5: Gua Ay Di” in 2006 is more of a rom-com with Richard Gutierrez-Angel Locsin. “Mano Po 6: A Mother’s Love” starred Sharon Cuneta in 2009. “Mano Po 3 to 6” were all directed by Joel Lamangan.

Now, after 7 years, the new “Mano Po 7” will have a new director, Ian Lorenos, a Fil-Chinese filmmaker raised in our local Chinatown who gave acting awards to LJ Reyes for “The Leaving” in Cinemalaya 2010, Jericho Rosales for “Alagwa” in Urian 2011 and Matteo Guidicelli and Rayver Cruz for “Saturday Night Chills” in Cinema One 2013. We ask Roselle why they’re entrusting the direction of a hit franchise with a relatively new director like Ian.

“I’ve seen the works of Ian and he’s very talented,” she says. “I’m confident that he will come up with a new ‘Mano Po’ that is very different from the previous ones, kasi pareho sila ni Richard na of Chinese ancestry so ibang sensibility and perspective naman ang maipapakita nila rito.”

Beauty Gonzales Proud Of Mom A Baby Girl, Happy To Make A Comeback In 'The Achy Breaky Hearts'

AS FOR BEAUTY Gonzales, she’s so proud of her baby girl named Olivia Inez. “Having a baby is the most wonderful thing that ever happened to me,” she declares. “It made me feel complete. I now have a concrete purpose in life, unlike before, wala akong iniisip kundi ang gumimik, mag-party. But now, after shooting, go home ako agad kasi I know my baby is waiting for me and when I see her smiling at me, it’s the greatest feeling ever and everyday is exciting.”

She’s currently building her own house with the help of her non-showbiz partner, Norman Crisologo. “We do a lot of traveling, creating lots of beautiful memories together with him and our baby. I’m lucky to have someone who takes me all over the world.”

Writers congratulate her for looking good. Para kang hindi nanganak at all, they tell her. “Nagbe-breastfeed kasi ako so motherhood has been very kind to me. Nakuha sa diet at mga dahon-dahon, tofu-tofu, pumayat agad uli ako. Hindi ko nga akalain na kukunin ako agad ng Star Cinema to do a movie. I play the best of friend of Jodi Sta. Maria in the story and after this, may teleserye naman daw akong gagawin so, yes, it’s nice to be back.”

Sarah Lahbati Plays Ian Veneracion's First Girlfriend Who Broke His Heart In 'The Achy Breaky Hearts'

TWO SINGLE MOMS are making a comeback in Star Cinema's “The Achy Breaky Hearts” and they both attended its presscon even if they only play short roles in the movie because ABS-CBN says they have big plans for both of them. These are Sarah Lahbati and Beauty Gonzales (product of Starstruck and PBB, respectively.)

In the movie, Sarah plays Ian Veneracion’s ex-girlfriend who broke his heart. She’s supposed to be part of the soap “Written in Our Stars” but this was shelved when Toni Gonzaga got pregnant.

“I’m still hoping na mayroong darating na bagong teleserye for me someday,” she says. “But as of now, I’m happy to be able to get the chance to work with Ian, Jodi Sta. Maria and Richard Yap in ‘Achy Breaky Heart’. Mababait sila. Also our director, Antoinette Jadaone. I’m in awe of her work kasi totoong-totoo ang emotions shown sa movies niya and I wish I could work with her again someday. At 22, I’m more inspired to work kasi I’ve become more mature now sa pananaw ko sa buhay.”

Off cam, Sarah is very happy with partner Richard Gutierrez and their son Zion, but she expressed her worry about Richard’s current hobby, which is riding on his expensive motorcycle and touring the country with his motorcycle friends. “Nagpunta na sila sa Sagada nang naka-bike and now, they’re in Mindoro. Nagro-RORO lang sila. I know he’s careful, but I can’t help but worry about him. Pareho kami ng mommy niya, si Tita Annabelle, na always praying for his safety.”

But Richard will now have to stay put for a while as their family’s show on E Channel, “It Takes Gutz to be a Gutierrez” will start airing its fourth season soon. He’s also doing a movie with Carlo Caparas and Viva is preparing a rom-com soon for him with a top actress.

Before I Wake Review: Scary Tale Of A Boy Whose Nightmares Come True

THOSE WHO love being frightened in the movies will enjoy “Before I Wake”, from the same team that made the hit horror flick, “Oculus”, writer Jeff Howard and Director Mike Flanagan. The movie stars Thomas Jane as Mark and Kate Bosworth as Jessie, a married couple mourning over the death of their son. To help save their marriage, they decide to adopt another child. They then meet Cody, an 8-year old boy who lost his mother when he was still very young.

Three foster parents have previously tried to adopt Cody but it seems he is difficult to take care of as he is always taken back to the orphanage. Mark and Kate choose him as he reminds them of their late son. But Cody has a big problem. He doesn’t sleep at all. He fights sleep by consuming lots of caffeinated drinks all the time. This is because when he falls asleep, bad dreams haunt him and they later become true in real life. One night, he dreams of Mark and Jessie’s late son and the dead boy suddenly appears before their very eyes.

But in his horrible nightmares, there is always a looming figure, that of a skeletal demon who torments Cody in his sleep and is very dangerous as he can take real people away. Mark and Jessie soon realize that they have to figure out what to do to help Cody before it’s too late and the monster in his nightmares become real and take over their lives.

Will this demon be the way for Mark and Jessie to be reunited with their son and for Cody to be reconciled with his dead and long lost mother? That’s for you to find out when you watch this horror flick. It’s also for you to figure out whether it’s a psychological or a supernatural horror piece. Are the events being shown really happening or are they just existing inside the head of the characters?
One thing that makes this movie really worth seeing is that it stars child actor Jacob Tremblay as Cody. Jacob is the amazing boy who played the boy born and raised inside claustrophobic surroundings in “Room”. The actress who played his mom there, Brie Larson, won an Oscar best actress award, but we felt there was an injustice because Jacob was ignored and not nominated at all when he’s even better and more astonishing than Larson.

Jacob reminds us of how good he really can be as a gifted child actor in “Before I Wake”. In the movie’s climax where a back story is shown to explain the strange happenings, he excels effortlessly with just the use of his sad looking eyes. His very persuasive portrayal of a boy harassed by supernatural forces that he cannot explain holds the movie together and is enough reason for you not to miss it.

Condolences To Nora Aunor & Family For The Passing Of Her Brother Eddie Villamayor

OUR CONDOLENCES to Nora Aunor and her family for the passing of her younger brother, Eddie Villamayor, at the age of 56. Fondly called Buboy, he starred with Ate Guy as a child actor in “Banaue” and in “Minsa’y Isang Gamo-Gamo”, from where the famous line “My brother is not a pig” comes from.

Ate Guy produced the movie “Alkitrang Dugo” for him, based on William Golding’s “Lord of the Flies” and directed by Lupita Concio. As a teen actor, he was linked to Winnie Santos, the younger sister of Ate Vi. But their tandem didn’t prosper and Winnie migrated to the States. Buboy has been confined at the FEU Hospital in Fairview for about a year now after he had a stroke. Let’s pray for the repose of his soul.

Rita Avila Ends One Soap With GMA & Starts A New One With ABS-CBN, Her Book Is Now Also A Stage Musical

RITA AVILA won’t say if she’d be able to escape from the evil Ina Feleo who’s keeping her imprisoned in a secret place in “Hanggang Makita Kang Muli”. “Basta abangan nyo kasi exciting ang last few weeks ng show namin,” she says when we visited their taping in Balay Indang, Cavite where she prepared a delicious lemon cake for us.

Rita is so lucky because right after “Hanggang Makita Kang Muli” ends a couple of weeks from now (to be replaced by “Sinungaling Mong Puso” starring Rhian Ramos and Rafael Rosell), she’d quickly move over the bakod as part of a new drama series on ABS-CBN, “Never Ever Say Goodbye” with Jericho Rosales, John Estrada and Arci Munoz, produced by Ruel Bayani and directed by her own husband, FM Reyes.

Meantime, Rita is happy that her children’s book, “The Invisible Wings”, has been made into a musical, with an English and Tagalog version. The Tagalog version is entitled “Ang Hindi Nakikitang Pakpak”. This will be shown at St. Scholastica Manila’s St. Cecilia’s Hall for two weekends in August: 18 to 21 and 25 to 28, directed by Tuqs Rutaquio. This will be shown three times a day at 9 AM, 1 PM and 3:30 PM, with tickets at P350. After two children’s books, Rita has also written her first romantic novel, “Wanna Bet on Love”, to be released this year.

As for “Hanggang Makita Kang Muli”, she remains missing as Glenda, the mother of Derrick Monasterio as Calvin. Somehow, she manages to escape from where Ina Feleo as Odessa has held her captive but she has an injury so she cannot move fast. She sees Derrick with Bea Binene as Ana but they don’t see her. Instead, Odessa catches up with her and shoots her. Odessa leaves thinking Rita is dead but someone rescues her and takes her to the hospital where doctors try to save her. Derrick thinks it’s his dad, Ramon Christopher as Francis, who did this to his mom and has an emotional confrontation with his own father.

Heart Evangelista Now A Multi-Millionaire From Her Sideline As A Painter And Fashion Designer

HEART EVANGELISTA need not work anymore as an actress because she has an equally lucrative job as a painter and fashion designer. “I will soon have my own clothing line,” she tells us when we visited her on the set of GMA-7’s hit romcom on primetime, “Juan Happy Love Story”. “I’m launching a very practical and very affordable collection of clothes that are all white and all black. If you’d buy the whole collection, you can mix and match them and you’d come up with 30 different looks for the whole month.

Very stylish and all whites and blacks kasi they’re not like printed dresses na kapag nasuot mo na, maaalala yun lagi ng mga kasama mo. But sa black and white, pagpapalitin mo lang ang combination and they always look new.”

As a painter, do you know that her works range from P700,000 to P1 million per painting? She also paints bags and she charges anywhere from P60,000 to P90,000 per Birkin bag that she paints on. “My earnings here helped a lot in the construction of my house in New Manila. We hope to move to it before Christmas.”

Heart is elated that the ratings of “Juan Happy Love Story” continue to go up and viewers accept her love team with Dennis Trillo even if they have different partners in real life. Their galit-bati relationship as Happy and Juan in the show continues. Now that they know their egg and sperm are not compatible so it’ll be hard for them to have their own child. They go to Obando to dance and ask for a child. Dennis tells Kim Domingo as Agatha that they cannot have their own child so Kim, who desires him, suggests that he just sires his child with her. Heart tells Dennis that they can just adopt a child and she’s considering to the adopt the adorable orphan from the orphanage, Katkat.
