Kristel De Catalina wins “Pilipinas Got Talent” Season 6

Kristel De Catalina emerged as the grand winner of ABS-CBN’s world class talent search “Pilipinas Got Talent” after beating nine other amazing and jaw-dropping acts in the show’s grand finals dubbed as “The Greatest Showdown” held last weekend at the Bren Z Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.

For her, she is still on cloud nine. It was her inspirations, her family especially her son and God, who made her win the competition.

“ I am overwhelmed.  I have mixed emotions and I still can’t believe it. It was my family, who believed in my talent and God, who gave me this skill, which pushed me to win this battle," said Kristel.

Kristel, who garnered a final score of 99.67% from the viewers’ text and online votes and judges’ scores, took home P2 million in cash plus a vacation package.  She is now the sixth grand winner since “Pilipinas Got Talent” was launched and the first solo female act to win the competition.

When asked where will she use the cash prize, she explained, "I'll save it for my son's education. He is still seven years old so the two million will go a long way."

Joining Kristel in the top three acts were para dance sports athletes Julius and Rhea who garnered 84.6% of the combined votes and judges’ scores and Joven Olvido with 79.05%.

Kristel wowed the jampacked venue with her breathtaking aerial stunt and emotional spiral pole dancing act. When Kristel auditioned, she was immediately sent to the semis when judge Vice Ganda chose her as his Golden Buzzer act. Kristel then topped the public’s votes in a semi-final round that earned her slot at the grand finals.

“Pilipinas Got Talent” remains to be one of the most successful talent-reality shows on Philippine television. The show’s sixth season truly made its mark by breaking numerous records. “PGT” season 6 debuted strongly by hitting an all-time high national TV rating of 43.3% on its pilot telecast, which is one of the highest rating recorded by a weekend program for 2018.

Meanwhile, “Pilipinas Got Talent: The Greatest Showdown” remained as the most watched weekend program with 37.5% national TV ratings last Saturday (April 28) and 39.7% last Sunday (April 29) when the grand winner was announced.

It is also the first Kapamilya show awarded with the YouTube Gold Creator Award for having a million strong community in the said video sharing website. It also has a million followers on its official Facebook page.

Still on the online world, “PGT” season six has the highest combined views on Facebook and YouTube compared to its past seasons.

Lastly, the show has given viewers one of the most diverse line up of acts in "PGT" history.

THREE YOUNG WOMEN MAKE A SEX PACT IN “BLOCKERS”

The filmmakers of Universal Pictures’ new sex comedy Blockers were looking for fresh voices and a natural chemistry when casting the three young women who forge a pact to lose their virginity on prom night.

“It needed to seem as if they’d known each other most of their lives,” explains director Kay Cannon.  “Fortunately, when the three actresses got together in that week of rehearsals, it felt like they’d been best friends forever.”

When casting Lisa’s (Leslie Mann) sweet, strong daughter Julie, filmmakers immediately turned to Kathryn Newton, whose star is rapidly on the rise following her standout performances inLady Bird and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Newton was immediately drawn to the script because Julie is always in the driver’s seat with her boyfriend Austin (Graham Phillips of TV’s The Good Wife), especially when it comes to decisions about sex.  “She feels comfortable in her relationship and confident about taking this next step,” the performer explains.  “This young couple has an honest relationship with clear communication.  It’s all Julie’s idea: She tells Austin she’s ready, and he says he feels ready, too.  It’s funny because Austin is the perfect boyfriend, but Lisa just can’t see that.”

Producers felt newcomer Gideon Adlon, whose credits include TV’s When We Rise and American Crime, was the perfect fit to play Hunter’s (Ike Barinholtz) daughter, Sam, a cool-nerd coming to terms with her sexuality.

Sam’s deeper storyline appealed to Adlon’s more dramatic background of work, as well as her real-life experiences.  “Sam has to deal with her absentee father just showing up on this important night,” explains the actress.  “It’s funny, but she’s also really hurt by it.  She wants her dad back in her life, and I can relate to those complications.”

To play Kayla—Mitchell’s (John Cena) athletic, tomboy daughter—producers looked no further than Australian actress Geraldine Viswanathan, who jumped at the chance to work with Cannon.  “I’m obsessed with Pitch Perfect, New Girl and 30 Rock,” she says of Cannon’s comedic portfolio.  “I remember being on the plane thinking that I’m going to meet Kay Cannon—one of my idols.  This is my first American role; I was pinching myself.”

Viswanathan also identified with Kayla’s desire to finally cut loose on prom night.  “She’s led this very disciplined, scheduled life, and now that high school is ending, she’s ready to close that chapter,” the performer says.  “For Kayla to lose her virginity is another way to break past these expectations and feel free.”

In Philippine cinemas May 02, Blockers is distributed in the Philippines by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.  Follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/uipmoviesph/; Twitter at https://twitter.com/uipmoviesph and Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/uipmoviesph/

LUCY HALE, FROM “PRETTY LITTLE LIARS” TO “TRUTH OR DARE”

Multi-talented and dynamic, Lucy Hale captured the attention of millions as the star of Freeform’s smash-hit series Pretty Little Liars.  For the role of Aria Montgomery, Hale won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Cable TV Actress in 2014.

Now, Lucy Hale joins Tyler Posey (TV’s Teen Wolf) in leading the cast of Blumhouse’s Truth or Dare, a supernatural thriller from Blumhouse Productions (Happy Death Day, Get Out, Split). A harmless game of “Truth or Dare” among friends turns deadly when someone—or something—begins to punish those who tell a lie—or refuse the dare.

“We were so lucky to get Lucy and Tyler,” states director Jeff Wadlow.  “They are lovely people, and after having gone through this grueling process together, I consider them great friends.  They’re artists, and their ability to convey emotion is so authentic, so finely tuned.  They have been working since they were kids and brought all of that experience and talent to our film; they delivered intense, thoughtful, funny, performances.”

Auditioning isn’t just for the cast, it’s also for the actors to see if they want to work with the director.  “During her audition, Lucy blew us out of the room,” lauds Wadlow.  “She’s insanely talented, and we knew we had our female lead as soon as she finished the scene.

The heart of her tight-knit group of friends, Olivia (Hale) cares more about helping the world at large than she does about taking care of herself.  She wants to spend her spring break building houses for the less fortunate, but her best friend, Markie, who she’s known since she was little, convinces her to go on vacation to Rosarito Beach in Mexico.  When Olivia and her friends get back—and terrifying moments can no longer be brushed off as coincidences—she has no choice but to accept that the game is real, and that it’s followed them home.  Now it’s up to her to convince her friends that this is happening; if she doesn’t, people are going to lose their lives.

What interested the actress was the deep bond between the young women who are the core of the story.  Hale reveals: “Whenever I read a script, I come up with a backstory for my character.  I imagined that Olivia and Markie grew up on the same street.  Their parents were friends, and they took dance classes together.  They’ve been through all of the stepping stones with each other.  They fight like sisters, but at the end of the day they’re blood and will always have each other’s back.”

Hale appreciated that Wadlow allowed the game to get more and more twisted.  One of her more memorable moments of production was when the characters try and trick the trickster demon who’s forcing them to play.  “Everyone thinks, ‘all we have to do is tell the truth and we’ll be fine!’  But they find out that if two people choose truth, the next one has to do a dare.  It gets very dark.  Earlier in the story, Markie tells Olivia, ‘I’ll break your hand if you touch me again!’  When Olivia is forced to take a dare, she has to do it, or Markie will die.  It just escalates from there.”

In Philippine cinemas May 9Truth or Dare is distributed in the Philippines by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.

Glydel Mercado As Megan Young's Mom In 'The Stepdaughter' And As A Religious Fanatic Who Encounters Horrifying Experiences In The Film, 'Poon (The Image)'

GLYDEL MERCADO is a mainstay in GMA-7’s “The Stepdaughters” where she plays the mother of Megan Young and they’re both oppressed by Katrina Halili, the daughter of Glydel’s second husband, Gary Estrada. “Abangan nyo dahil lumalaban na kami ni Megan kay Katrina,” she says. “Hindi na kami basta magpapaapi sa kanya. But although on screen, nag-aaway kami, sa set ng taping namin, magkakaibigan kaming lahat at enjoy kami working with each other.”

She’s now glad to be part of the coming Cine Filipino Film Festival that starts showing on May 9. She plays Claudia, the mother of Shy Carlos in the entry, “Poon (The Image”), about the image of a saint that she brings to their home and starts a terrifying series of events in their lives.

“Bago yung director namin, si Ron Supangan Bernaid,” Glydel tells us at the presscon of Cine Filipino in Gateway. “Writer siya sa Viva and first directorial job niya ito. Although he’s new, he knows what he’s doing and I’m sure those who love horror drama will enjoy watching the movie and get a good scare.”

How is it working with Shy Carlos? “First time namin to work together and okay siya. Nagkasundo kami agad and maganda ang rapport namin, which is important kasi mag-ina ang role namin dito sa movie. Yung poon dito, si San Vargas, is actually gawa-gawa lang ng writer-director namin. Nang mapunta sa akin yung poon, I believed agad na it’s miraculous. Nagagalit ako kapag may kumokontra sa akin.Yung character ni Shy ang nagpapa-realize sa akin kung yung nakakatakot na mga pangyayari sa buhay namin ay totoo o imagined lamang. Kasama namin dito si Yayo Aguila, Mon Confiado and Chanel Latorre.”

Mike Enriquez, Arnold Clavio, Ali Sotto & Joel Reyes Zobel Reveal The Secret Of The Success Of Their Show 'Double B Sa News TV' That Celebrates Its First Anniversary

MIKE ENRIQUEZ, Arnold Clavio, Ali Sotto and Joel Reyes Zobel are currently celebrating the 1st anniversary of their hit TV and radio show, “Double B sa News TV”, seen on GMA News TV and heard on DZBB from 6 AM to 11 AM weekdays. And they’re proud that their show is on the number one spot in MegaManila with a rating of 37.40 percent in the last quarter of 2017 and also in the first quarter of 2018 with 35.40 percent, per AGB Nielsen, with DZBB as the number one AM radio station.

“Nagpapasalamat kami sa lahat ng viewers and listeners namin,” says Ali. “It’s a humbling experience na niluklok nila kami sa number one spot, so we promise na mas pagbubutihin pa namin ang aming paglilingkod sa kanila. We look forward to more anniversaries to come. Malaking plus yung hindi lang kami naririnig kundi napapanod pa para mas lalo kaming maging responsable. Radyo na, TV pa. But it’s a lot of hard work kasi gigising ka ng madaling araw para mag-check na agad ng balita online. And for me, I have to do my own hair and makeup kasi nga on cam na kami. Yung songs namin sa Jeng Jeng portion, pinaghihirapan din namin yung buuin araw-araw.”

What’s their secret? “I think our audience see na we really enjoy what we’re doing and we also enjoy each other’s company,” says Arnold. “Masarap na feeling din yung marami kaming nahahatiran ng sariwang balita at napapasaya namin ang kanilang mga umaga. Worth it yung paggising namin ng 4 AM everyday.”

We ask them what they’ve discovered to be each other’s most endearing qualities since they started working together.

“Si Igan (Arnold), andaming good qualities,” says Ali. “We’ve been together on radio since 1997 and I always feel na he’s got my back. Kung kailangan ko siya, puede ko siyang tawagan at takbuhan anytime. Si Mike, he doesn’t make me feel na he’s my boss. His best gift to me is that he believes in me. I’m on radio because of him. Siyang nagbigay ng break sa’kin in broadcasting. Si Joel naman, he welcomed me agad and sa short time na nakilala ko siya, kinuha akong ninang sa recent binyag ng kanyang first baby na si Pia Ysobel.”

“Si Mike, parang tatay ko yan, si Ali ang nanay at si Joel ang younger brother,” says Igan. “Everyday, they inspire me sa aming pagbabatuhan sa ere. Si Mike, tag team na kami. Kami raw ang bagong Dolphy and Panchito. Wala kaming iwanan. Si Ali, she’s always full of knowledge at alam kong ipaglalaban niya ako. Si Joel, he’s a good good friend.”

“I didn’t expect Ali to be that warm kasi artista siya, singer pa,” says Joel. “She gives me the best working environment. Si Arnold, laging maaasahan. He brings out the best in me even when we play golf. Mike is a very strict boss but a good friend also. Malaki utang na loob ko sa kanya as he gave me the best break sa career ko.”

“Isa lang ang masasabi ko about them,” says Mike. “Kung bibigyan uli ako ng chance to repeat my life, lalo na sa broadcasting, wala akong ibang hahangaring makatrabaho kundi silang tatlo pa rin. At yun ding mga taga-operations namin sa DZBB na siyang kumakayod araw-araw to make sure we give our best to our listeners and viewers everyday.”

One of the show’s best sellers is the Sino blind items Arnold dishes out everyday. “Hindi tsismis ang mga yun, ha,” he says. “They’re true at reminders sila sa ating government officials na mag-ingat sila dahil may mga matang nagmamasid at nagbabantay sa mga galaw at tinitimbre agad sa’min ang kanilang misbehavior.”

Jennylyn Mercado Makes Sure She'S Fit And Slim For Her Action Role In The Drama-Thriller, 'The Cure', That Starts Airing On GMA-7 This Monday, April 30

JENNYLYN MERCADO looks so slim and sexy in her body hugging outfit at the presscon of “The Cure” that starts airing tonight right after “24 Oras”. Her waistline is so tiny and her curvaceous figure is really like that of an hour glass.

“I really had to be fit kasi hindi biro ang action scenes na ipinagawa sa akin ni Direk Mark Reyes dito sa ‘The Cure’,” she says. “I used to be avoid action scenes, lalo na yung may mga pasabugan kasi natatakot ako, but dito, I had no choice kasi kailangan talaga sa story yung mga eksena ng takbuhan, talunan and endless fight scenes dahil action-thriller ang dating ng ‘The Cure’. So tuloy-tuloy ang training ko para rito, pati na yung jujitsu na dati ko naman nang ginagawa, to make sure I’ll be physically fit sa anumang taxing na eksenang ipagagawa pa sa’kin dito.”

She’s thankful to her leading man, Tom Rodriguez, who plays her husband in the story. “Tom is always full of energy. Maliksi siya laging kumilos so nahahawa ako sa kanya. Maski sa blastings, nawawala ang takot kasi kapag pinapanood ko siya, parang bale wala lang sa kanya yung mga pasabugan sa eksena. Don’t miss the pilot episode (tonight) kunsaan ipapakita how the virus spread and started the epidemic that turned people into monsters. Marami talagang eksenang nakakatensiyon.”

About her lovelife, it’s obvious she and Dennis Trillo no longer hide their relationship. When Jen posted her photo on social media, Dennis commented: “Ang ganda naman talaga ng mahal ko.”

But like what they both say, marriage is still far from their minds. “Wala pa talaga sa plano namin,” says Jen. “Lalo na sa’kin, ang dami ko pang ibang gustong gawin sa buhay ko. I’m not really ready to settle down yet. Happy naman kami with what we have now so ganun na lang muna. No need to rush naman.”
